There is now hope for the several billion people on earth without internet, either because of cost or oppressive government restrictions. The Outernet is a growing free library available to anyone with a receiver anywhere in the world. It is almost like a cross between the Internet and a network television broadcast.
For now the communication is only one way, meaning you can only receive files. However who knows how it may evolve in the future. The Outernet project went online in 2014 and is rapidly gaining popularity around the world. The lantern receiver is pictured to the left. It is a solar powered device used to receive the Outernet. The company also distributes instructions on building your own receiver. The Outernet is still in it's early stages but we should all keep an eye on this new technology as it continues to develop.
